Abstract

The document describes a method for assessing the protective action of paint coatings on steel against filiform corrosion. On the coating to be tested a scribed mark is made into which a small amount of sodium chloride is introduced, either by dipping in a solution of the salt or by exposure to salt fog. After storage in a test cabinet at 40 °C and a relative humidity of 80 % the amount of filiform corrosion developed from the scribed mark is assessed.
